Considering the appalling levels of philosophical literacy, I’ve decided to expand upon the notion disproving a claim.
As it stands, the religious seem content to suggest that because we can’t disprove God’s existence, then it’s more than possible that he actually exists…..however, they don’t seem to fathom that not only haven’t they defined God, that his definition varies wildly between individuals, even though it’s always in an undefined state, as such, it’s proper status is that of imaginary concept.

Consider the claim “David Ig can lift 340kg drums”……now when we analyse the information contained in this claim, we’re almost overwhelmed by it….we have a distinct person, a defined weight, an object, and an action{lifting}….now there’s 2 elements to this and any claim, the first is whether it sounds possible at face value, so we ask ourselves, can the average person lift such a weight……well, as it happens, most people might be aware that people can, ie, a strong person can lift a motor car up onto the footpath/pavement, now granted it’s not a full lift over one’s head, but nevertheless, still qualifies as lifting.

So step one seems reasonable, it sounds possible even if somewhat difficult….so let’s move to step 2…..measuring/identifying the claim and it’s details, in our case, the movement or lifting of a heavy object by a particular person.
Truth is, when I was in my early 20’s, I did lift 340kg drums off floor level pallets, and have lifted cars up onto the footpath,….but there’s no need to take my word for it, cause this is something that can be tested, and the test can be repeated……but what happens when I try and test for God’s existence???.....I run into a minor problem, ie, I have no fucking idea what it is….so how am I to conduct any sort of test to prove or disprove it’s existence?

What am I to disprove?......that xyz is up in the sky….how will I test this without having a single piece of physical information about xyz?........of course, it’s simply not possible to conduct any sort of independently verifiable test/s, as such, we conclude the claim is arbitrary and not subject to the process of proof or disproof.

I can’t really make it any simpler than that, so if you still think it’s valid to claim that an imaginary concept devoid of any physical and knowable substance exists, then quite frankly, you’re an idiot, there’s no other word for it……OTOH, intelligent people who’ve not been privy to the study of philosophy might let all those details whirl around their head and end up agreeing with me……but if one chooses to reject reality, reject all science, reject philosophy and logic, and simply rely on gut feelings, well then chances are that you’ll be wrong all over the place.

Also consider the implications of God’s existence, ie, if we can overlook what he is, we might be inclined to ask where he is, and is he the only one, and why oh why does the moron allow so much human suffering when he could simply jail or eliminate the evil, especially as many consider him to be omniscient….after all , he did give us his 10 commandments, so why not simply jail or do away with the worst violators?....erm, here’s an answer….because he doesn’t actually exist!!

Whilst there are differing interpretations of what the positives and negatives of being a believer vs a non-believer, what kind of being would impose an eternity of hell for simply doubting his existence when all he has to do is bare his fucking ass for Godsakes…..it’s not like people would reject his existence if he whizzed them up to Jupiter for the afternoon.
Anyway, even though it’s obvious he doesn’t exist{at least to me}, his record on law and order is disturbing to say the least…..if we call George W Bush the Texecutioner, what would we call a being that’s overseen millions and millions of needless killings?

I also want agnostics and other atheists to note the tone that these type of threads take….it’s virtually threatening, ie, convert mofo, or else…..not to mention the amount of mindless banter on the part of these religious fruitcakes…..at which point I’d like to point out that most of them have no idea of what either science or philosophy are, yet are prepared to reject both in favour of something quite ludicrous as a concept, and massive mass murderer like as an actual being.

Another thing that amazes me, is despite naming this dump Prison Planet, you’re more than happy to accept a master/slave relationship, just as long as it isn’t Jewish…..here’s an idea, how about waking up to the fact that all religions offer illegitimate forms of control, either for the benefit of a fantasy, or for a handful of elites who think you’re complete idiots for believing in something so silly, and investing so much of your time, energy and spirituality into a master/slave relationship.

A philosopher is considered to be someone who loves knowledge/wisdom, yet I’ll be damned if I know how to convince people who’ve rejected the very thinking skills that would enable genuine enlightenment…..that’s right folks, if you reject science and logic, it’s inevitable that your verbal output will range from idiotic to irrational, and that’s exactly what we see in this thread, not only in the form of the discussions on the subject, but also the mindless one-liners that clearly don’t belong.

Even though I’m probably wasting my time, I will mention that the philosophy of Objectivism, ie, it’s epistemology and metaphysics are a great place{if not the only place} to start studying philosophy…..Objectivism deals with atheism vs theism, rational vs irrational, subjective ethics vs objective ethics, and a host of other important considerations.

You could also look up Thomas Paine and his more specific views on individualism.
